This past Saturday we took a trip to South Carolina. Today is our last full day, and I must say, I am glad vacation is coming to an end.
The south is wonderful and full of history, but its time to go home.
We’ve come to the conclusion that somehow, somewhere along the way, we have grown in love over the past few days. A mutual attraction and understanding that extends beyond any relationship that we’ve ever had or will ever have has been further developed. We are truly learning what it means to be united. But really the highlight was eating Paula Deen’s best dishes at The Lady and Sons restaurant. Not only did we get to see pictures of the Lady in her younger years, but we also loved the good ol’ fashioned southern cooking and delicious sweet tea to be had there. The gift shop was amazing too, as disappointing as the shirt selection was. Who wants talk of butter on their t-shirt? Give me a picture of Paula’s face plastered on it and I’m sold. So, no shirt, but Ryan did buy me a blue pen, I hope it doesn’t write in blue. I hate blue ink.
This was Ryan’s first time in South Carolina and he says had a good first experience. The fact that my dad was the leader of the trip definitely added to the fun and made for more enjoyable moments. Especially his superb driving skills (ask about the drive thru window experience).
We got to experience some tropical storms. Ryan was able to meet my 92-year old great uncle, Dirwood “Dick” Thompson, who showed us one of the oldest water mills in the United States, Yates Mill. Spending time with my grandparents was cool and we had some good home-cooked meals and a few extremely competitive games of dominoes. “Uh oh, Caroline only has two left, get her!” – Grandpa. The week ended with a beach visit and matching Piggly Wiggly shirts. *Please look forward to us wearing these shirts often.
The merging of families is something that I never thought I would experience but now having that experience I am grateful that it is with Ryan.
To sum it up, I love Paula Deen and Ryan. I won’t tell you whether or not that is the correct order…
